I fell into triathlon after a friend of mine suggested I enter a mini triathlon at Rowton Castle; I didn’t like swimming, never mind do freestyle! Eventually, I mastered freestyle enough to swim the 16, very short, lengths and entered the mini triathlon, and have been hooked ever since. I have competed in numerous sprint and Olympic distance triathlons and more recently stepped up to Ironman 70.3 distance. I joined SYtri in its founding year – through the kindness and encouragement of everyone in the club my fitness levels, skills and confidence improved. I wanted to give something back to the club and so agreed to help out by becoming a coach. The support, encouragement and friendship throughout SYtri is amazing and this is always brought home to me on race day when the black and orange army is out supporting each other. For me, triathlon is about maintaining a healthy lifestyle, whilst getting out with friends and having fun!
